If you have plans to travel across the country on Amtrak this weekend you might have to postpone them. A potential rail worker strike has forced the country's passenger rail carrier to cancel all long distance trains this weekend. The labor dispute is not with union Amtrak workers. Union workers with three freight carriers are on the verge of a strike. This strike will effect Amtrak because most of the track Amtrak Trains use is owned and maintained by freight carriers. More than 115,000 union rail workers can legally go on strike starting tomorrow. Northeast Corridor Trains have not been cancelled because Amtrak owns most of the track that carries those trains. The freight carriers are facing a midnight Friday strike deadline. They include: Union Pacific, BNSF and Norfolk Southern.
