The United States Department of Agriculture says the price of our Thanksgiving Turkey will be about 73 percent higher than it was last year. The average 16 pound turkey should cost about $1.99 a pound. Last year's average price was $1.19. The cost of the rest of our Thanksgiving dinner is going up by about 14 percent. Analysts say the cost of turkeys has sky rocketed because of a labor shortage and the bird flu. On top of the 40 year high rate of inflation which is close to 9 percent. The U.S.D.A. believes the higher prices will be with us for the entire holiday season.
