A post on the Sparta Police Department's Facebook page shows a video of a speeding driver nearly hitting officer Andrew Spitzer. The near miss happened on Andover Road while Spitzer was assisting at the scene of an earlier car accident. On the video, that looks like it was taken from Spitzer's body cam, the officer can be seen jumping out of the way and heard yelling "whoa whoa whoa." Sparta Police allege the driver was injecting himself with drugs while speeding at 70 miles per hour through the accident scene. While another police car chased close behind. The post says: "Our officers are always putting themselves in the line of danger. This is just one recent example. We appreciate those who recognize what we do and may encounter. We appreciate those that support us constantly. We serve and protect because of this support."
