United Van Lines annual "National Movers Study" was released yesterday and for the 5th year in a row New Jersey is on top. To no ones surprise New Jersey is still the number one state people are moving out of. Over 67 percent of New Jersey's moves were "outbound." Other states with significantly more outbound moves include: Illinois, New York, Michigan and Wyoming. Pennsylvania has moved up to number 6 on the moving out list. The top 5 states people are moving to were: Vermont, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Delaware,
Baby Boomers and Gen X did most of the moving last year. Top reasons for moving included a desire to be closer to family, starting a new job and retirement. Overall, the study shows Americans continue to move out of high population areas to places where there is less population density. Which looks to me like a very subtle way of saying people are moving away from high crime and high tax areas.
