Humpback Whales are truly amazing creatures. A full grown adult whale is the size of a school bus. They're known for the melodic songs and acrobatic maneuvers when they breach the water. Over the weekend a dead humpback washed ashore in Atlantic City. That's the 6th dead whale to wash ashore on New Jersey and New York beaches in just over one month. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is currently studying what they call an "uptick" in whale deaths since 2016.
Yesterday on the beach in Atlantic City several environmental groups held a press conference to call on Federal and State Officials to stop off shore wind development. The groups want the increase in whale deaths to be thoroughly investigated before more gigantic wind turbines are built off shore. So far the Biden Administration has had no comment. While Governor Murphy's Office punted saying that decision would be made by the State Department of Environmental Protection.
