When I first saw this story my guess was the big boom heard over North Jersey last week was a supersonic jet. It turns out that's exactly what it was. The jet was actually flying miles out over the Atlantic Ocean when the boom happened. It was heard and felt over North Jersey because of a combination of weather and atmospheric conditions. I'm still in awe whenever I see vapor trails way up in the sky. I think to myself that's our brave and brilliant U.S. Air Force pilots up there!
