Friday night the temperature on the dash board in my Subaru read minus 6. That was around midnight when my son got home from work. A few hours before that as the temperature dropped into the single digits the heat in my home stopped working. I was enjoying a pool party with my daughter and her boyfriend at the local Best Western. My grand daughter Gracie and daughter Kim had a room at the hotel for the night to have some "mommy daughter time." The first few hours they invited a few of Gracie's friends and we all went swimming. We had a really nice time. When I got home with Kim's boyfriend at 8 o'clock we noticed the temperature in the house was 64 degrees. I've owned my house for more than 20 years. So I knew this was a bad sign. Especially with temperatures expected to drop below 0. Luckily for me Kim's boyfriend knows quite a bit about heating systems. The circular pump had failed. It was blazing hot to the touch and no hot water was getting into any of the 4 zones. Lowes and Home Depot near my house both close at 9. So we had an hour to find ia new pump. Lowes was out of stock. Home Depot had one. It was $125.00. By 10 o'clock we got my old Slant Fin boiler running again. When you own a home you always have to be ready for unexpected expenses. This time it wasn't too bad.
My other big accomplishment was finding someone to take my son's old bedroom set. Which has been taking up needed space downstairs. Within a hour of posting it in the Free Stuff Pike County Facebook page several people were interested. Sunday morning I carried everything upstairs and by the afternoon the woman and her husband came with their truck and took it away. I hope their son gets good use out of it.
My sons Matt and James came over to visit this weekend too. They never stay long but I'm always happy to see them. Matt dropped off Valentine's Day cupcakes for Gracie and Christopher. James dropped off his W2 forms. He still uses my long time accountant for his taxes.
In the kitchen we made caramel apples on Saturday. Our mistake was putting them in the refrigerator. By the time I had one on Sunday it was almost impossible to get through the hard coating. They were delicious though. I also made more yummy chicken drumsticks in the air fryer.
