What are the chances that both the lead play by play and color analyst for Sunday's Super Bowl T.V. broadcast would be lifelong friends from North Jersey. Kevin Burkhardt grew up in Bloomfield and graduated from William Paterson University in 1997. His first job in broadcasting was at a small local AM radio station near the university WGHT in Pompton Plains. Where he coved local high school football games. Greg Olsen was a top football prospect playing for Wayne Hills High School. Where his dad was coach. That's how Burkhardt and Olsen first met and remained friends for over 25 years. Olsen went on to a 14 year NFL career. Then transitioned into broadcasting. Burkhardt got his big break working for SNY as a broadcaster for the New York Mets. Met's broadcaster Gary Cohen was the inspiration for his love of sports and broadcasting as he grew up. What are the chances something like that could happen. As if that's not unique enough. There's more. A third member of the broadcast team is also from New Jersey. Sideline reporter Tom Rinaldi grew up in Cresskill.
