Back in January the Pennsylvania Game Commission set up a live cam to stream a mother and her cubs hibernating under a deck in Pike County. Thousands have been watching as the mother and her two cubs grew and became more active. My daughter Kim was one of them. Recently, the cam showed the cubs briefly venturing out and even wrestling under the watchful eye of their momma bear. A few days ago my daughter "tuned in" to the stream and said "dad they're gone." She was sad but knew it was inevitable.
Information and Education supervisor for the game commission said: "We're glad to provide the opportunity here. It offers a rare glimpse into what happens in a bear den and into how rapidly they grow." This really was a cool thing to do. Hopefully, they'll do something like this again next year.
