Which major league ballparks are worthy of a road trip

One of the things on my bucket list is to visit a lot more baseball stadiums when I retire. I've visited Citi Field and Yankee Stadium the most but beyond that not too many. Fenway Par in Boston, Nationals Park in Washington and Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles. When I was 14 we visited Comiskey Park in Chicago. Which is long gone. Recently, baseball writer Pete Caldera ranked all 30 major league ball parks for any baseball fan interested in taking a road trip this summer. Here are some of the best and worst parks according to him. On the top of his rankings was Oracle Park in San Francisco. Where the stadium is right next to the bay. Next is PNC Park in Pittsburg. He says there's no better view in the majors. My son James went to a game there a few years ago and said it was worth the trip. Number three was T Mobile Park in Seattle. Caldera called it "the perfect blend of a retro feel and modern setting." Fenway Park and Wrigley Field were in their own category because of their history. Both are always worth the trip.

The bottom three on the list were: Tropicana Field in Tampa, Ring Central Coliseum in Oakland and Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. Citi Field made the upper tier at number 8. Mostly because it is a nice tribute to Ebbets Field in Brooklyn and it's selection of food. Surprisingly, Yankee stadium did not make the top 10. The latest edition of the House that Ruth Built was ranked at number 20. Calera says: "Inside an attractive shell it's a spectacular disappointment." Ouch!
