I have three sons that I taught to drive hen they were 17. My youngest son James just turned 26. So it's been a while since I've been a driving teacher. My grandson is turning 4 in December and my daughter Kim wants to go back to work. Before her kids were born she always managed to get rides to work. Now she doesn't want to rely on others. So she finally has decided it's time to learn to drive. Last week in Milford she passed her written test on her first try. Her boyfriend and I have been taking her to Airport Park in Matamoras early in the morning to get her used to the feel of my Jeep. The park has a wide paved road that used to be a runway. It's the perfect place to get a new driver started. Especially, when it's early in the morning when no one is around.
Yesterday after food shopping at Weis Markets in Lords Valley I asked Kim if she wanted to drive home. She said "Yes." Kim drove all the way home. It was her first time getting on and off a highway. She even made it though a merge and road construction in I 84. It was a little nerve racking for me though. She still needs to learn to turn better. Backing up is something we have to work on too. She is uncomfortable turning around to look for cars backing up. Relying on a back up camera is not enough. It will all come together in due time.
We also took my sweet grand babies out for ice cream. I love them so much. They're growing up so fast.
