The New Jersey Department of Fish Game and Wildlife now estimates there are more than 3 Thousand coyotes living in New Jersey. They are not native to our state but have adapted very well to living here. Even in more urban areas because coyotes eat just about anything. Their only enemy in New Jersey is the automobile. Coyotes are living in all 21 New Jersey Counties. They're aggressive hunters who kill to eat but also attack for fun according to Ron Jones a wildlife official in Gloucester County. Coyotes have been known to attack pets and humans. Sometimes small children. Recently humans have been attacked in Essex and Union Counties. Luckily, coyotes tend to shy away from humans most of the time. Several years ago I almost hit one in High Point State Park.
