You have to wonder how many other people are ripping off Social Security. As the program designed to give us a secure retirement is slowly getting drained. There are others trying to reap benefits they are not entitled to. One guy in Essex County was able to stay under Social Security's radar for 16 years. Collecting checks and cashing them after his disabled brother passed away.
In Federal Court in Newark last week Silvano Chable of Irvington admitted to cashing over $237,000.00 worth of Social Security Checks he was not entitled to. The U.S. Attorney's Office says when Chable's brother passed away back in 2001. He never notified Social Security and the checks just kept coming until 2017. Last week Chable was sentenced to a year in prison. He also agreed to pay back the $237,000.00 he stole. Too bad it wasn't with interest.
