I started working in Sussex County right out of college in 1983. It didn't take me long to realize this is a very special place to work and live. Before coming here I never saw communities coming together like the ones here. The generosity and kindness from neighbor to neighbor even benefited me at times. I took a job or two in other places over the past 40 years but always missed this wonderful place. This weekend proved not much has changed since the early 1980's. Yes, there are more people here. Like me, they came here from other parts of New Jersey and New York. Like me they were moved by the giving spirit and kindness of the people who live here.
Every year we go out and do Stuff the Bus. I wonder to myself if that giving spirit still exists here. Times are tougher than ever for many people for many reasons. This past weekend we spread out our three local radio stations at 5 different Shop Rite's. I was at the Franklin Shop Rite on Saturday and at the Newton Shop Rite on Sunday. All I can say is "Thank You" to those who gave away their frozen turkeys and bought extra groceries to help their neighbors. I don't know who said "God loves happy givers" but I saw hundreds giving with a smile this weekend. One group deserves a special shout out. The Garden State H.O.G. chapter donated 60 turkeys at the Newton Shop Rite yesterday. H.O.G. stands for Harleys Only Group. What an awesome group of happy givers. I hope you enjoy the pictures I'm sharing.
