On Christmas Day volunteer John Debacker ran out of a family gathering in Middlesex County to rescue a distressed cat in Irvington. The gray tabby had been wandering around a neighborhood in Irvington for several days with a jar stuck on it's head. It would only be a matter of time before the cat would stave to death because it could not eat or drink. Debacker has many years of experience with a cat rescue organization on Long Island. Lucky for the cat he was visiting family in New Jersey when he got the call. He told NJ.CM he ran right out after he got a call for help from rescuers in New Jersey. The video posted on his Facebook page shows him very carefully approaching and grabbing the cat. Removing the jar only took a few seconds. The cat is temporarily staying at another volunteer's home. A determination has to be made as to whether it's feral or friendly. If the cat is feral it will be neutered and released.
