This story could have easily ended with a local man getting scammed out of $45,000. A Blairstown Police Facebook post says a man came to headquarters on February 3rd concerned about a pop up virus on his computer. He said the pop up instructed him to call a number which said it was for Microsoft. When he called the number he was told not to contact anyone and withdraw $45,000 from his bank account. The man complied with the request and sent a cashiers check to a California address via UPS. A Blairstown Police Officer contacted police in California who were able to intercept the check before the U.P.S. delivery. Just in the nick of time. The check was returned to the intended scam victim.
