A raccoon with rabies just bite a Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area hiker

Yesterday The National Park Service announced a raccoon that bit a hiker in the Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area later tested positive for rabies. Details of how the hiker was bitten were not released. The hiker was in the park on the McDade Recreational Trail near the Bushkill Access. The bite happened a week ago on March 14th. The National Park Service release urges park visitors not to "approach or touch sick or dead wildlife." Instead visitors should alert a park ranger. The NPS release goes on to say: "Not all sick animals have rabies, however rabies should be considered in any case where an animal is acting aggressively for no apparent reason or is confused and not afraid of humans."
