New Jersey Motor Vehicle fees could be going up soon

This fiscal year begins July 1st. This year's $50 Million New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission budget shortage will be covered by additional spending in Governor Murphy's budget. The bad news for New Jersey Drivers is the injection of funds from the state budget is just a band aid. The long term solution will likely be higher fees. Members of the Assembly Budget Committee and top officials with the Motor Vehicle Commission met yesterday in Trenton. Chief Administrator Latrecia Littles-Ford told the committee: "We know we have to go back and look at our fees long and hard. Although, we didn't increase anything for fiscal year 25 We know we have to go back to the table and take a look at where we can make some increases. She blamed the commission's continuing budget problems on unfunded federal mandates, staffing problems, pension and benefits costs.
