Federal Prosecutors in Newark have charged 77 year old Janis Miller with stealing more than $1 Million Dollars from Social Security. Miller is from South Orange. The indictment says when her aunt died back in 1998 she never informed Social Security. Direct deposits continued into her aunt's bank account. Miller was able to access the funds with a debit card, making cash withdrawals and forging checks. Her scam was exposed when she could not remember her aunt's exact date of birth. While she was pretending to be her aunt in a phone conversation with a Social Security worker. It amazes me that she was able to continue this scam for so long.
