Meet Newton's Memorial Day Parade Grand Marshalls

The Grand Marshalls of Newton's annual Memorial Day Parade are both veterans who served our country heroically and with honor. Vietnam War Veteran Carmen Turrisi was drafted when he was 19. He is a recipient of The Purple Heart. Which is awarded to those who were injured while serving our country. Turrisi worked for United Parcel Service for 30 years. He is 77 years old and lives in East Hanover.

If you grew up in Sussex County and loved the Hampton Roller Rink you already know Cornelius Neal Faber. What you might not know is that he served in the U.S. Navy in World War Two as a gunner's mate. When he returned home he became a carpenter. When he was 50 he accomplished his dream of building his own roller rink. The Hampton Roller Rink was enjoyed by thousands of kids in Sussex County until it closed in the early 80's. To this day they speak fondly about Faber and his wife Norma. Who were known for their love and kindness. He turns 100 in August. Sadly, he will not be able to be at the parade in person because he is in the medical unit of a nursing home in Sussex County. It is wonderful that he is being recognized.
