Soprano's cast member wants New Jersey Pet Shops to stop selling puppies

Animal rescue organizations have been saving dogs from terrible conditions in "puppy mills" for years. As long as puppy mills make money they will exist. The owners make money selling what they breed to pet shops. Many times the conditions where the young dogs live are deplorable. Several years ago New York State banned the sale of dogs, cats and rabbits in pet shops. Now Edie Falco who played Tony Soprano's wife wants New Jersey to do the same thing. She just appeared in a video for the ASPCA asking New Jersey residents to support legislation sponsored by State Senators Brian Stack and Raj Mukherji that would prevent pet shops from selling dogs, cats and rabbits in New Jersey. Falco says: "Before I adopted my beloved dog Sami. She lived in a cardboard box in a breeding facility. She was in the basement, in the dark. She didn't have a name or see a vet when she was in pain or sick. Her one job was to produce puppies."
