According to United Van Lines National Movers Study people are moving out of New Jersey to other states almost twice as fast as people are moving in. So how does New Jersey's population continue to rise? The answer is simple. People are coming to New Jersey from other countries. The 1.3 percent increase from 2023 to 2024 is the largest in the northeast. So while people who currently live in New Jersey are moving out to escape the high cost of living and high taxes. The rise in International migration has people moving into New Jersey. Governor Murphy says "We're incredibly proud that New Jersey is among the top 10 states for population growth. This census data is an important testament to the work being done everyday across the administration to support our workers and continue building a stronger fairer New Jersey."
