Governor Murphy, Morris County Mayors and State Legislators from the 24th and 25th districts toured the I-80 sink hole site Saturday Morning. State Legislator Dawn Fantasia posted an update on Facebook shortly afterward. Here are some of the takeaways from her post: "The NJDOT is working around the clock to stabilize the area. Specialized machinery is drilling and injecting grout into dozens of surrounding areas to reinforce the surrounding areas to reinforce the infrastructure. A slow but necessary process to prevent further collapse and protect nearby homes and businesses." She went on to say the New Jersey State Police have assigned 27 officers to the area daily. Six officers at the site and 21 more for traffic control around the area. The cost of all of this is about $150,000 a day.
On Saturday Governor Murphy declared a state of emergency in the area. Which will allow the state to apply for additional funding to help with the situation. Hopefully, some help from the Federal Government will come because of the declaration.
