Earlier this month we reported the average property tax bill in New Jersey now tops $10,000. There are some towns in North Jersey with low property taxes by comparison. The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs says two of those towns are in Sussex County. Montague Township's average property tax bill is just under $4,700 a year. The average property value there is just under $170,000. The town of Walpack has the lowest average property tax in the state at just under $2000. Only a handful of people actually live there. Bergen County's Teterboro comes in second lowest with average taxes around $2,000. Less than 100 people live in Teterboro. The town is mostly an airport.
