This will be incredible if it continues. A couple in Burlington County started planting American Chestnut Tree seedings about 6 years ago. Now some of the first trees they planted are starting to bear fruit. Luke and Rachael Tarvin are hoping to bring back what was once a staple of the American diet. Chestnut farming was a livelihood for many farmers before a blight started to wipe out the trees in the 1950's. The Tarvin's aren't the only New Jersey farmers trying to restore the once thriving agricultural industry. These farmers are planting blight resistant trees developed in Japan and China. Before the blight, one out of every four trees in forests from Maine to Florida was an American Chestnut.
