My "Festive Baking" Weekend in Pictures

I was pretty busy last weekend and it was very hot. So baking my patriotic strawberry short cake was not a good idea. This weekend it was cloudy and a little cooler. So I decided to make my traditional July 4th favorite. Since it's hot during the day I baked the two round pieces of yellow cake in the evening. Then let them cool down in the refrigerator over night. Then early Sunday Morning I sliced a basket of strawberries as thin as i could. From there it's very easy. Put a layer of cool whip and the thin sliced strawberries in between the yellow cake rounds. Then cover everything with the remaining cool whip. The last step is placing the remaining thin sliced strawberries and fresh blueberries on top of the cake. Be as creative with the berries as you want. Now here's the best part. Since the berries are in season, the entire cost to make the cake was about 7 bucks. The two other weekend pictures have a fun story line. I dug out the winter boots from my closet so I'm ready for the snake pit at Space Farms. Junior Zookeeper's Day is Saturday July 17th. My annual tradition of helping my friend Parker Space in the snake den will continue. The weekend wouldn't be complete my a funny grandson picture. Little Christopher loves all of my hats. The minute I open my bedroom door he runs in, climbs on my bed and says "hat." He is such a joy. Check out all of my pictures below.
