Swartswood Lake here in Sussex County boasts a large body of water for those who like to row their boats, go for a swim or other water based activities. Yet, only one island exists on the lake and that is Dove Island. Today, it is just another body of land that is surrounded by a forest of trees. But way back when and probably before you or I were around, it was an island retreat that vacationers would go to and pretty much stay there for a good part of the year until it got cooler.
