N.J. Halts Prosecution on Marijuana Cases Until September

Whoa! New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal announced an immediate adjournment on all marijuana cases in municipal courts across the state. With the second highest marijuana arrest rate in the United States, this move affects thousands of defendants.

NJ Advance Media reports that Grewal asked N.J. prosecutors to seek adjournment "of any matter involving a marijuana-related offense pending in municipal court" until at least September 4. Though court cases are going on the back burner, arrests for marijuana possession will continue.

That's not all. Senator Nicholas Scutari's bill to legalize adult-use marijuana may be reaching the Senate by September.
