As the host of a live radio show I have the opportunity to make hundreds of mistakes everyday. When a mistake happens there's no where to hide. In the world of live radio the best thing to do when something goes wrong is to not call attention to it. I used to be very hard on myself after every mistake. It was making me sick. Every morning some things go wrong or don't come out right. It took me a long time to learn how to handle it. Instead of focusing on what's already happened. Focus on doing a really good show tomorrow.
A few years ago one of my New Year's resolutions was to not be so hard on myself. It took me a long time to learn the mental and physical stress just isn't worth it. Today I'm still pretty hard on myself but not as hard as I used to be. Having expectations and standards is good. Not giving yourself enough credit isn't good. Here are some signs you need to cut yourself some slack.
1) The things you say to yourself are mostly negative
2) You find yourself too tired to do simple things
3) You start to doubt the people who appreciate you
4) You are tense most of the time
5) You start to expect less of yourself
