Sussex County homeowners can get free trees this month

If you plant them they will grow! The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is giving away 60,000 tree seedlings across the state in April and May. The tree seedling giveaway is part of the New Jersey Forrest Service's Tree Recovery Program. Residents will receive bundles of 5 free seedlings. Communities will be given tree species that grow well in that particular area. Species that grow well in North Jersey include persimmon and Black Oak. A total of 37 different tree species are available through this program. Right now the seedlings are only 1 or 2 feet tall. With proper care the trees will grow and help our environment in numerous ways. Proof of residency in the community where the trees are being given out is not required. In Sussex County you can pick up your free trees at these locations:

C.O. Johnson Field in Byram Saturday April 27th from 9AM to 1PM.

Green Township Municipal Building Saturday May 4th from 10AM to Noon.

Hopatcong Borough Hall Saturday May 4th from 9AM to 1PM.
