When I saw this story I thought of my two favorite moms: my daughter Kim and my mom. Much has changed since I was born and when my grand kids were born. Those of you who go to my page regularly always see pictures of my grand kids Gracie and Christopher. We welcomed Christopher into the world only two months ago. Recently, a woman from North Carolina found new born baby care instructions sent home from the hospital with her mother when she was born. Some will shock you and some will make you laugh. One of the biggest shockers is that people could smoke in hospital rooms 50 years ago. The instructions only tell parents not to smoke when the baby is in the room. Visitors and even dads were not allowed to sit on moms bed or to be in the room at feeding time for the baby. Babies were kept in the nursery and only brought to mom at specific times for feeding. For nursing mom's the instructions were very detailed. Suggested feeding times were only 5 minutes the first day and seven minutes the next two days. They were worried about moms getting sore nipples. New born babies must have been hungry most of the time back then. I'll add one more thing my mom told me. When she was expecting her doctor had no problem with her having an occasional cigarette and a martini when she got home from work!
