Drug overdose deaths in Sussex County jumped from 4 in December to 11 in January. State and local law enforcement agencies have issued an alert to Sussex County residents. Sussex County Prosecutor Francis Koch told the New Jersey Herald the unexpected increase is probably due to a "hot batch" of drugs that contain deadly amounts of fentanyl. The alert came from the New Jersey Medical Examiner's Office, New Jersey State Police and the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office. Becky Carlson from the Center for Prevention and Counseling told the Herald January's fatal overdose numbers are likely the highest reported in a single month. There are so many programs here in Sussex County to help those who are addicted to deadly drugs. I talk about them almost everyday on 1023 WSUS. It's heartbreaking these tragic deaths are continuing.
