The New Jersey State Forrest Fire Service is battling a large fire near the top of Mount Tammany in Worthington State Forest. Yesterday, firefighters carried heavy equipment and climbed the 1,500 foot peak to fight the flames. Late yesterday afternoon the forest fire service called in a helicopter to dump water on the fire. Firefighting efforts will continue today. A cause for the fire has not been determined. Mount Tammany is a popular hiking spot in Warren County across from the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Rain is expected tomorrow. Which will hopefully help the forest fire service control the flames.
