Newton Residents pool fees waved for 2020

The Newton Town Council did something wonderful for all residents Monday Night. This summer everyone who lives in Newton will be able to enjoy the newly repaired and improved municipal pool for free. Last summer the closing of the pool disappointed many residents. This is the council's way to thank residents for their patience while engineers studied how to repair the pool long term. This month the council approved spending $365,000.00 for renovations and site improvements. The usual fee for a family of up to 6 is $250.00 for the summer. The fee for a couple or single parent with one child would be $175.00. Individual memberships are $125.00. Daily admission will be 5 dollars 3 dollars for seniors. Councilwoman Helen Le Frois said the fee waiver is a "culmination of a year's plus of work." The town where I grew up (North Bergen) had had a municipal pool since the 1970's. I loved going there when I was a kid. Let's hope after enjoying a full summer of their pool without fees in 2020. Many more Newton residents will decide to become annual members and support their pool in 2021. People who do not live in Newton can also enjoy the pool this summer but will have to pay the appropriate fee.
