My Epic Weekend In Pictures: A Self Haircut Epic Fail

Well this weekend ended up being rather epic after all. Even though we can't venture out as much as we used to, I still try to make every moment count. This Epic Weekend In Pictures involved a near fire on my precious electric grill, a BEAR encounter, a nice walk with Awesome Girlfriend Megan, and yes, my first ever self haircut where the results were rather auspicious.

Going through uploading my pictures, I'm realizing I didn't have any pictures or selfies Friday night. It's almost like a blah kind of blur. I'm guessing Friday night I was just inside staying safe and bored watching television. If it wasn't for my Pet Of The Week on Thursdays, I would be forgetting the days of the week too.

Saturday was a gorgeous day, but for me and Meg rather frustrating. UPS told her she had a package coming to her house Saturday between 10 and 2 that required her signature. Meg figures it's something for her career. We wanted to go for a nice walk in Sparta at White Lake Park. Normally on weekends when Meg has the girls, I try to take her out for a drink or lunch somewhere in Sparta, since that's basically halfway between me in Vernon and Meg in Hackettstown. With restaurants and bars not being an option, we now meet up and go for a walk together instead. This UPS situation was a minor inconvenience, like Meg said "if the package was arriving Monday through Friday when she was working at home anyway, it wouldn't have changed anything." Of course, UPS blew us off. We spent the whole day basically not able to see each other because of them. We were frustrated but if that's our biggest problem, we're doing quite well.

Saturday Meg and I met briefer than expected because of scheduling glitches, but it was still terrific. We picked up lunch to go from The Irish Cottage Inn in Franklin. I wanted to treat the girls for Awesome Daughter Amanda's upcoming birthday. I knew I couldn't go see them in person, but this was a way I could still be there for them in a small way.

I've been realizing how lost I would be in quarantine life without NFL Network on Saturdays and Bar Rescue marathons on Sundays. I have never been the binge watching type at all, I get tired of most things after 60-90 minutes (ADD what?) With our current situation, suddenly it's almost forced me to start binge watching some things. NFL Timeline is a terrific show if you can watch it. One special focused on how the year 1984 was a saving year for football, which I never knew. Basically, ratings were slumping, people were calling doomsday for the National Football League, then a ton of new players broke in and started breaking records and leading to more excitement more or less.

I was less than amused when NFL Network did a one hour special on the David Tyree miracle helmet catch for the New York Football Giants thus defeating my Patriots in the Super Bowl the first time they did this to me. UGH. Overall the shows were great.

I enjoyed our virtual Happy Hour with my Cottage regular friends. It's great to see everyone on screens, but boy do we miss getting to see them in person or what!

Saturday night my allergies were hitting me hard, and I just stayed in with a quiet inside. My bestie Spooner alerted me that there was a Bear heading straight across the ski slope from his place to my neighborhood. Unfortunately a neighbor must have left the dumpster open, and the bear went right to it. Drives me crazy when folks leave dumpsters open. If they're too scared to touch the dumpster at this point, I'll gladly open and close it for them and immediately wash my hands after.

Sunday turned out to be quite the eventful day. I grilled porterhouse steaks for my first time ever. I bought them from Ideal Farm & Garden over the weekend, and they were fantastic. I was very excited to google porterhouse steaks after purchasing and learning that they're nicknamed "the king of steaks, because you get both a filet and a strip." Well both Filet and Strips are my favorite, so this is really perfect! It was juicy, so juicy that it almost caused a fire in my electric grill. Minor flame. I turned it off, gave it a few minutes, and with support / guidance after my panic call to Awesome Girlfriend Megan, I turned the grill back on. Success! I will say I'm not a fan of how much waste you can get with a porterhouse, between the bone, fat, etc. That being said it was still amazing. I ate both of those steaks. My bestie Brendan pointed out to me that for lunch I apparently consumed approximately 20 ounces of steak. Whoops. Quarantine 15 here we come!

Sunday afternoon I attempted to give myself a haircut for my first time ever. I learned some valuable lessons during this Facebook Live video. When you need to use trimmers, it might be a good idea to charge them ahead of time so they don't die on you in the middle of your Facebook live video! I charged it for a few hours, then spent some time last night still trying to even out my bad haircut. Tonight I'll probably spend a little more time trying to even it out.

Overall, we had a terrific weekend. As terrific as possible. I hope your weekend was wonderful too. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my Epic Weekend In Pictures, and watching as they happen on Instagram (cheap plug) @SteveAllanRadio. Time to start planning next weekend. Hopefully no bad haircuts next weekend.
