Governor Murphy blocks Wayne's High School graduation ceremonies

Wayne Township Mayor Chris Vergano was hoping to hold graduation ceremonies for Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley High Schools this week. The ceremonies would have taken place in the municipal parking lot and followed social distancing protocols. The problem with the plan is that Governor Murphy's executive orders do not allow outdoor gatherings of more than 500 people until July 6th. The Murphy administration sued to block the graduation ceremonies and won. The governor's only comment was: "The good news is it appears to be organized in the way we want it. The bad news is we're not allowing them until July 6th." In a statement on the township's website the mayor said this was not about politics: " Our only goal was to assist the children of our community in having a meaningful celebration. Governor Murphy participated in Black Lives Matter marches several weeks ago that violated his own executive orders.
