Another swimmer drowns in the Delaware River

When someone is drowning in the Delaware River the Westfall Fire Department's rescue boat passes right by my house in Matamoras. I always pray they get there on time. Sometimes they don't. Every summer people try to swim across the Upper Delaware River and loose their life. Towns on both side of the river need to put up signs to warn about the strong currents. The river claimed another young life this past Sunday afternoon. Jeuris Arias Castillo tried to swim across the river and did not make it. According to the Go Fund Me page set up to help pay for his funeral, Jeuris tried to swim across with a friend. Who did make it across. Several people jumped in to try and save Jeuris but the under current swept him away. It took rescue boats about 30 minutes to respond. According to the Pike County Coroner's Office firefighters from Port Jervis, Huguenot, Sparrolwbush and Orange County Battalion 8 dive team responded to help. Castillo's body was recovered near Milford Beach. He lived in Patterson and was 20 years old.
