To fight the spread of coronavirus, New Jersey passed a law giving inmates with less than 8 months left in their sentences early release. On Wednesday 2,300 inmates in New Jersey prisons were released. Yesterday agents from ICE (U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement) arrested 88 of the inmates just released. A spokesman for ICE in Newark said all of the inmates were violet offenders or have convictions for serious crimes like homicide, drug trafficking, aggravated assault and sexual exploitation of children. Most of those arrested are now on their way to ICE detention facilities outside of New Jersey. According to New Jersey's law people convicted of murder or serious sexual offenses were not going to be released early. Governor Murphy's office has not commented on the arrests so far. The 88 people arrested face court proceedings to remove them from them country.
