Seven candidates ran for two seats on the Newton Town Council on Election Day. The top three candidates are separated by only 60 votes. Sussex County Clerk Jeff Parrot has reported 950 ballots cast countywide need to be "cured" before they can be counted. It' safe to assume some of those ballots came from Newton. A "cured" ballot is a ballot that requires additional information from the voter. Usually, a ballot is "cured" when a signature does not appear to match, the address is missing or the address does not match the address on the voter registration card. Voters who were notified their ballot needs to be "cured" have until close of business tomorrow to provide the correct information to the Sussex County Clerk's Office. So far in the Newton Town Council race Michelle Teets leads with 1,114 votes, followed John Couce who has 1090 votes, then Helen LeFrois with 1,054 votes.
