The average yearly property tax bill in New Jersey is now over $9,000.

New data from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs shows the average property tax bill in our state was $9,112 in 2020. That's an increase of less than 2 percent over the year before. Low by New Jersey's usual standards. Though not great news when you consider New Jersey already has the highest property taxes in the nation. Bergen, Essex and Union County taxpayers are paying an average of $1,000 per month. Cumberland County had the lowest average property tax at about $5,000.
