My "Sprucing Up" Weekend in Pictures

There's always a lot to do before summer when you're a home owner. My goal is to have everything done by the first week of June. So I can relax and enjoy the fruits of my labor for the rest of the summer. Every year Matamoras has a Spring Clean Up Day. This years it's Saturday May 8th. This year I'm going to have a lot of stuff to bring to the firehouse for disposal. The first clean up project was my shed. Each year I take everything out. Get rid of what I don't want. Then organize what's left. Somehow I make a lot of room. That was my first project on Saturday. Then I volunteered at another Spring Clean Up at The United Methodist Church of Matamoras. When we were finished the outside of the church and parsonage looked great. The only goal we could not accomplish was completely removing a large Azalea bush that was partially blocking our church sign. We cut the bush down just fine. Then tried everything to pull the root out of the ground. We kept digging and finding more huge roots. No matter how many huge roots we found and cut. The chain attached to a pick up truck couldn't get that remaining stump out. It gave me a new appreciation for nature. I never realized how deep and strong roots from bushes can get over time. Finally, we gave up. The "mother root" of that old Azalea was not coming out! When I arrived home I found a box on the steps labeled "live insects." After some investigating I found out that my daughter had ordered a kit to grow live butterflies at home for Gracie. When she missed school because of the quarantine Gracie missed growing the butterflies with her class. She was pretty sad about it. So now in addition to 4 dogs and a Conure. We now have at last count six caterpillars living in my house. Hopefully, they'll form cocoons. Then turn into butterflies. So Gracie can watch the process and then release them. Saturday Night my stepson took his mother and me out to a very enjoyable dinner. He will be leaving to visit his wife in Indonesia and we won't be seeing him for about a year. I ordered a turkey sandwich with cheese and bacon. Turkey has less fat than a burger so I was trying to eat healthy. When the sandwich came it was piled high with bacon. Not as healthy as I had planned but very delicious. I ate every last bite. After church on Sunday I started to replace the shrubs in front of my house that were destroyed by the February 1st snowstorm. My first planting looked great and didn't take that long. Just two more flowering bushes and the front of my house will look good again. Check out my weekend pictures below.
