This Friday Sussex County Miners General Manager Justin Ferrarella will be stopping by the studio to give fans an update on this year's season at Skylands Stadium. I'm looking forward to seeing him. So far here's what we know. Opening Night is next Thursday May 27th with fireworks after the game. On Saturday the 29th there's going to be a Memorial Day weekend barbecue with specialty burgers, 25 craft beers and more fireworks after the game. Saturday June 12th is retro Cardinals Night with fireworks after the game. Saturday July 4th is Hometown Hero's night with a police, fire and EMS parade around the field and fireworks after the game. There will be a Food Truck Festival on September 4th. There will be 12 Saturday night games with fireworks at Skylands Stadium this season. One of the Miner's new players is former Seton Hall pitching star Billy Layne. The year the Miners will be playing in the Frontier League. Which is a Major League Baseball partner league. Teams from the eastern and midwestern U.S. will be visiting Sussex County all summer. Those teams include: The Southern Illinois Miners, Gateway Grizzlies, Florence Y'alls, Evansville Otters, Windy City Thunderbolts, Schaumburg Boomers, Lake Erie Crushers, Joliet Slammers, Washington Wild Things, Jersey Jackals and Tri-City Valley Cats. I love going to see the Miners play. Especially when its a comfortable star lit summer night. I've had a lot of fun throwing out the first pitch over the years too. Let's get out and root for the home team and enjoy some fun family entertainment at Skylands Stadium this summer. I hope to see you there.
