Pike County raises pay to $24 per hour for corrections officers

When it's fully staffed the Pike County Jail should have 89 corrections officers. Right now the current number of corrections staff is 42. When new CO's are hired. Many don't stay very long. To deal with the problem the Pike County Commissioners looked at what other correctional facilities were paying nearby. They came to the conclusion that $17.89 per hour was not enough to attract and keep people on staff in a very difficult work environment. So as of September 1st the new starting pay for CO's has been increased to $24 per hour. Current jail employees will also receive across the board pay increases.
