The outdoor enthusiast website Outforia has gone back 50 years to determine which wild animals are the deadliest to humans in North America, Here's the list and numbers.
Brown Bear (Grizzly Bear) 70
Sharks and Snakes 57
Black Bear 54
Alligator 33
Cougar 16
Polar Bear 10
Wolf 2
One animal I thought would make the list was coyote. Then I discovered a surprising fact about them. Coyotes go to great lengths to avoid humans. California and Texas are the most dangerous states for deadly animal attacks. Grizzly Bears are found in Alaska, Washington and Montana. Experts say you should "play dead" if you think you might be attacked. Snakes should be left alone. They won't attack unless you provoke them. Remain calm if you are in the vicinity of a shark. Try to escape from a black bear. When confronted by a cougar or wolf face them and try to look as intimidating as possible. The National Park Service says you should know the protocols and the wild animals in the area before venturing into the wilderness.
