My Epic Weekend In Pictures: My Parents 1st Presidents Day Visit In 2 Years

Editor note: There won't be an Epic Weekend In Pictures next Monday because I'll be flying from Jersey to Fort Lauderdale, Florida! My first time on an airplane in 9 years! I'm going to go on a golf vacation with my besties I grew up with, Matt, Chris and Rob. I can't freakin wait!!!!!!!! You can see my adventures in real time on my Instagram story, @SteveAllanRadio. Thank you for understanding!

This weekend was definitely an Epic Weekend In Pictures for sure. I know I'll never forget this special President's Day holiday weekend. A few years ago before the pandemic, I started an annual tradition of having my parents from New England visit me on President's Day Weekend. They laugh and always joke about how I make up holidays to trick them into visiting me. President's Day is one of the biggest ski weekends all year long, and you know how much I absolutely love watching skiers and snowboarders at Mountain Creek right from my deck. We had to take 2021 off from that tradition because at this point last year we were still battling the pandemic and waiting for vaccines etc. We were very happy to bring back this tradition.

My poor parents drove four and a half hours to see me, and got caught in traffic from that white out snow squall we had happen here Saturday afternoon. Other than that traffic snarl, my parents enjoyed traveling here the way I've been usually doing it the past 7 years. Just hit up 84 for a couple of hours, and that's half of your drive anyway.

Friday night I discovered that it was national drink wine day. Not that we need a reason to enjoy a glass of wine Friday night, but the special holiday didn't hurt for added measure. I had a quiet Friday night in with besties Jasen and Brendan. With a busy entertaining weekend ahead, it was perfect to have a quiet night in on Campus with the boys. They introduced me to some kind of Ocupulus game where you put a visor on and see things much differently. It was almost like playing Dance Dance Revolution but with your eyes instead of legs. It was interesting, entertaining and was one of the most amusing selfies I have ever taken lol.

Saturday morning I spent doing some errands and organizing my place getting ready for my parents arrival. My Mom is a veteran house cleaner, so I need to make sure my place is spotless. She has standards much higher than mine. When she says I did a great job of keeping my beautiful little place clean, I can't hide how proud I am.

Over the past several years, I have made much more of a concerted effort to schedule fewer activities for them. They reminded me years ago "Steve, you literally live on a vacation resort, we're happy to relax on your deck." I'm beyond blessed to have my amazing family and friends. It's always humbling when so many of my wonderful friends take time out of their lives to see me with my parents.

Our very first stop was to see our friends at The Irish Cottage Inn in Franklin. Our home irish pub lol. I always am sure to bring my family there and my friends were happy to see them there. It was great to see so many of my wonderful friends who came out to see my parents. We all had a great time, Padre enjoyed a well poured Blacksmith (Guinness and Smithwick's.) It was great getting to see my dear friend Damian and congratulate him in person on his first home sale as a realtor.

After enjoying several good laughs and catching up with so many friends, we then ventured over to Kite's in Vernon. We had a blast with more friends, and the energy President's Day week is always so much fun. One of the best weeks all year to live in Vernon on Campus! It's always fun hearing folks hooting and hollering on the ski slopes having such a great time. I love the energy of it.

Sunday we went to Orange County Distillery at Brown Barn Farm. Another one of my parents favorite spots. We then were able to hang out with our friends Christine and Chris, and Annie and Liz. We hadn't met Liz before but hit it off immediately. All of them were enjoying the whiskey flight samples. I stuck to a Newburgh Lager since I was driving us back to Campus.

We then ended up at Frosty Cantina right at Minerals. They had heaters going and we ran into bartender Sam there. Success!

Monday Padre helped me with my big window insulation project. It was a pain in the neck. It is helping me retain more heat in my place I think though!

We did our farewell lunch at The Cottage. Then I watched skiers and snowboarders on my deck with a single malt whiskey from Orange County Distillery. Perfect, quiet end to a loud weekend. I think I need a weekend from my weekend but it was so worth it! I'm a very lucky person.
