For supermarkets and other retail stores all over New Jersey May 4th is the big day. That's when New Jersey's plan planned ban on plastic shopping and grocery bags goes into effect. All stores in New Jersey will no longer be allowed to provide customers with plastic carry out shopping bags to bring home what they just purchased. Large supermarkets can't give customers large paper bags either. Plastic Foam food containers and cups will be gone too. Plastic produce and deli bags have not been banned. So if you don't already have reusable tote bags to use. Plan on getting them soon. You can also bring your own previously used plastic bags too. I have some tote bags but I'm going to keep a cardboard box in my trunk for New Jersey shopping emergencies. Most of the time I'll avoid all this by shopping in Pennsylvania.
