Northern New Jersey is bracing for a challenging Thanksgiving week, with inclement weather and a surge in holiday travelers. The tri-state area is expecting heavy rain and strong winds on Tuesday night into Wednesday, the busiest travel day of the year. Forecasters predict one-to-two inches of rain, with a possible wintry mix in the far north and west. A frost and freeze alert has also been issued for tonight into tomorrow morning.
Despite the chilly Thanksgiving day forecast, with a high of only 43 degrees, the MTA and NJ Transit are gearing up to transport millions of people this week. Special schedules will be in operation from Wednesday through Sunday to accommodate the holiday rush. Extra service will be provided on Thanksgiving Day for the Macy’s Parade by Metro-North Railroad, while routine maintenance on all bridges and tunnels will be suspended by the MTA to keep traffic flowing.
NJ Transit is also stepping up its services, offering early getaway options on Wednesday. Additional trains will be running on Thanksgiving Day for parade-goers. As the region prepares for the holiday week, travelers are advised to plan ahead and stay updated on weather conditions and transit schedules.
