Shrewsbury, New Jersey resident Theresa Nist has won the heart of the “Golden Bachelor.” Gerry Turner, a 72-year-old from Indiana, was the leading man on ABC’s debut dating show that exclusively features contestants 60 years and older.

The show, which has been a hit with viewers, saw 22 women vying for Turner’s heart. However, it was Nist who emerged victorious. The couple got engaged on the season finale, marking an end to their journey on the show.

The couple plans to get married on January 4th during a televised ceremony. Turner, ever the romantic, says they don’t have time to waste at their age. This marks the first “Bachelor” nuptials in almost a decade and the quickest ever wedding for a franchise that doesn’t usually end in happily-ever-after.

The upcoming wedding, dubbed the “Golden Wedding,” will be the first televised nuptials for the franchise since The Bachelor favorites Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici exchanged vows in 2014.

The show's premiere September 28th premiere on ABC attracted 9 million viewers after a week, more than double its initial audience of 4.36 million. This is a multi-year high for the ‘Bachelor’ franchise, with the premiere being the most-watched episode of any ABC unscripted show on Hulu.

Nist, 69, works in financial planning and has two children from her previous marriage.
