As Christmas Day quickly approaches, air fryers have become a popular gift choice in New Jersey. Known for their healthier cooking methods, versatility, and ease of use, these devices have been flying off the shelves at major retailers in recent years. However, a recall that was just announced has the potential to affect gift recipients this holiday season.
Empower Brands has issued a recall for two models of the PowerXL dual-basket air fryer according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission. The affected models, sold in black or cinnamon colors, are the 10-quart DUAF-10 and the 9-quart DUAF-005. Both models bear a silver “PowerXL” label on the front and a white label on the bottom or power cord listing the model number.
The recall comes after the company received 41 reports of the product breaking during use, including three reports of burns. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled air fryers and contact Empower Brands for a full refund.
The recalled air fryers were sold at Target, Walmart, and Kohls in New Jersey, as well as other stores nationwide, and through various websites. The products were available for purchase from August 2021 through October 2023, with prices ranging between $60 and $190, depending on the model.
Despite the recall, air fryers remain a popular choice for holiday gifting in the Garden State. Their ability to cook a variety of foods with less oil and easy clean-up make them an attractive option for many cooks.
