Update: Winter Storm Watch Issued

Northwestern New Jersey and the Southern Poconos are bracing for a major winter storm this weekend. The area is expected to receive 4-7 inches of snow, starting Saturday afternoon or early evening and tapering off overnight. Some lingering light snow might persist into Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service. The storm is being driven by an off-shore low pressure system.

The heaviest snowfall is predicted for the northern regions, with Wantage and Mount Pocono potentially receiving 6-8 inches of snow. However, Morristown is expected to see lighter snowfall amounts, with predictions ranging between 1-2 inches. Moving further south and east in New Jersey, more rain than snow is anticipated, with some sleet expected across the area.

This marks the first major winter storm of 2024, and the first potential accumulating snowfall in 2 years in the Tri-State.

Leading up to the storm, residents can be prepared by checking their heating system, including ensuring a sufficient supply of fuel, stocking up on non-perishable food items, water, and warm clothing.
